Testing sites are responsible for handling all used and unused assessment materials securely and in accordance with NOCTI policies.

Destroying Used Materials
Used assessment materials must be handled in a way that protects test security and prevents unauthorized access.

Sites should follow one of the approved methods below:
  • Securely destroy test booklets immediately after the assessment session in a manner that prevents reconstruction. Shredding is strongly recommended.
  • Return materials to a designated central location if required by the state or testing organization. Confirm requirements in advance to ensure compliance.
  • Secure all skill-based performance evaluation materials, such as worksheets, test taker work, and evaluator notes, in a controlled location until scores have been fully posted in the Client Services Center.
Handling Unused Materials
Unused paper/pencil assessments may be returned for credit only if they meet NOCTI return requirements.

To be eligible for credit:
  • Test booklets must be unopened and sealed.
  • Unused answer sheets must be included.
  • The return request must be submitted within 180 days of purchase.
Sites should plan orders carefully to help avoid excess materials. All approved returns are subject to a handling fee. Once returned materials are received and verified, a credit will be applied to the account.

For complete return requirements, access the Returns Policy in the Client Services Center.

Important Reminder
Online assessments, study guides, and remote proctoring sessions are final sale items and are not eligible for return or credit.
