To promote consistency and fairness, the following resources are permitted during knowledge-based (written) assessments:  
  • Non-programmable, non-scientific calculators, when appropriate.  The online testing system offers a built-in calculator for participant use. 
  • Scrap paper 
  • No. 2 pencils 
Specific assessment titles may have additional guidance, which will be noted in the Instructor Prep Pack or assessment materials.  

Electrical Construction Technology (4230) 
The National Electrical Code (NEC) reference book is NOT needed for the 2018 version of the test.  This is a change from the previous version of the test. 

Electrical Occupations (3029) 
National Electrical Code – Participants are allowed to use the NEC reference book that is adopted by the authority having jurisdiction in the local area. 

Personal electronic devices (e.g., mobile phones and smartphones, smartwatches and other wearable technology, wireless earbuds, Bluetooth headsets, smart glasses, laptops, tablets and E-readers) are not permitted during testing. Access to internet resources is also prohibited, as these resources can compromise focus and assessment integrity.
