In
some situations, administering only
a portion of an assessment may
better align with a program’s instructional
scope. For example, if a specific
job within the skill-based
(performance) assessment is not included
in the instructional program,
administering
that portion may not provide
meaningful value for the
learner or the program. In
these cases, a site may request Subpart
Scoring for the skill-based
(performance) component. Subpart
Scoring is available for
paper/pencil knowledge-based (written)
and paper/pencil skill-based
(performance) assessments.
Please note that Subpart
Scoring is not available for assessments
delivered through the online system; it is
only supported for paper/pencil
testing.
When considering Subpart Scoring, it
is important to note that NOCTI’s
comparative data is based on participants
completing the full assessment. As a result,
Subpart Scoring may limit the usefulness of
comparative reporting.
Assessments scored using the Subpart
Scoring option are not eligible for NOCTI
certification, college credit recommendations,
or credentials offered through state or
organized assessment programs. To
request Subpart
Scoring, a NOCTI Subpart Scoring Request must be completed by
the Site Coordinator and
returned with the applicable answer
sheets. If an answer sheet intended
for Subpart Scoring is submitted without
the required form, it will be scored as a
complete assessment, and the resulting score
will reflect an incomplete test.
When requesting Subpart Scoring, all
items within the omitted subpart
(whether a knowledge-based
written standard area or skill-based
performance job) must be left blank.
All remaining items must be completed to
ensure accurate scoring.
For organized testing
programs, Subpart Scoring is
typically only with approval from
the governing agency. Programs
should confirm authorization before selecting
this option.
